ABSTRACT
Background: Diarrhea is one of the most common health problems in infants and can lead to dehydration and even death if not managed properly. Rotavirus is the most common cause of acute diarrhea in infants; therefore, preventive efforts through rotavirus vaccination are necessary.
Objective: To improve mothers' knowledge regarding rotavirus vaccination in preventing diarrhea among infants in the Paal Merah II area of Jambi City.
Methods: This study employed a descriptive research design with a case study approach. The subjects consisted of two mothers who had infants aged 6–12 weeks and possessed limited knowledge regarding rotavirus vaccination. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and pre-test and post-test questionnaires consisting of 10 questions. Health education was provided using lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and leaflet media over a period of three days.
Results: The results showed that before receiving health education, the respondents' level of knowledge was still categorized as poor, with knowledge scores of 40% for Mrs. F and 30% for Mrs. W. After receiving health education, an improvement in knowledge was observed in both respondents, with Mrs. F achieving a score of 90% and Mrs. W achieving a score of 80%, both of which were categorized as good. These findings indicate that health education regarding rotavirus vaccination was effective in improving mothers' knowledge about efforts to prevent diarrhea in infants
Conclusion: There was a change in mothers' knowledge scores after receiving health education regarding rotavirus vaccination.
